The EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy visited Armenia on April 6 as part of his first regional visit to the South Caucasus. He expressed hope that the EU will soon start negotiating an Association Agreement with Armenia, which will lead to closer bilateral political and economic relations.
Within the scope of the visit, Armenia and the European Commission signed a memorandum of understanding on the National Indicative Programme 2011-2013. Armenia will be assigned € 157 million as financial support for implementation of the cooperation goals with the EU. Reforms in the areas of democracy, governance, economy and trade are envisaged.
