Seminar on inter-parliamentary cooperation at the National Assembly

On 7 February 2014 the EU Advisory Group (EUAG) organised a seminar on Inter-parliamentary Cooperation in the European Union at the Armenian National Assembly (NA).
The seminar was intended for members of NA Standing Committees which deal with inter-parliamentary cooperation, members of NA Delegations of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, members of the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly and relevant parliamentary staff.
The Seminar was opened by Artak Zakaryan, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly, and Dirk Lorenz, Head of the Political, Economic, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Armenia.
The aim of the seminar was to raise awareness on the role of national parliaments and the benefits of inter-parliamentary cooperation. Additionally, participants provided suggestions on how to further improve existing ties between the NA, the national parliaments of the EU Member States, and the European Parliament. During the seminar existing legal bases for parliamentary cooperation between EU Parliaments were presented and the roles of various multilateral parliamentary cooperation bodies were outlined.
