More EU support for SMEs

3 October 2011

On 7 June 2011 the Turn Around Management and Business Advisory Service (TAM/BAS) programmes of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) officially started in Yerevan. The EU has pledged an additional €5 million to support TAM/BAS programmes, which provide micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with direct assistance from business advisors and consultants, adapting them to the demands of a market economy. These funds should allow the implementation of at least 30 TAM and 500 BAS programmes in the region. The funds are earmarked for use in the Eastern Partnership countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
The TAM and BAS supported projects bring best business standards and improve SME management skills like planning, production, quality control and marketing, thereby making them more competitive and able to attract external financing.
