On 25 June 2012 an EU-funded Twinning project entitled “Harmonisation with EU standards and institution building of the Armenian State Inspectorate for the Protection of Markets” was inaugurated in Armenia. It is aimed at strengthening the institutions in charge of standardisation, accreditation, conformity assessment, metrology and market surveillance.
The basic requirements for a future EU market surveillance system should include: legal reforms which will provide a legal context of EU market surveillance system; new staff training; improved awareness and access to information for economic operators and consumers.
The expected results are: a modern and effective State Inspectorate in Armenia; increased participation in the international market surveillance and consumer protection field; improved national business environment.
This twinning project was launched in Armenia in May 2012 and is being implemented with the assistance of Northern Ireland Co-operation Overseas and Lithuania SNFPI and SCRPA, as well as the Armenian State Inspectorate for the Protection of Markets.
The total value of the project amounts to 1 million EUR and it will last for 18 months.
