Healthy body, healthy soul

28 March 2012

Students of the #52 Hovhannes Hovhannisyan school have until now had limited opportunities to include recreational activities in their class schedules because of the lack of repairs and sports equipment on their sports ground. In spring 2011 the school was selected as a participant for a pilot project “Governance in the context of Sport as social link” (GOSPEL), a 3-year project implemented in the cities of Yerevan (Armenia) and Mahdia (Tunisia), which is part of the EU-funded “Cooperation in Urban Development and Dialogue” (CUIDAD) programme, The lead partner of the programme is Marseille (France) City Hall.
As part of this EU intiative, the sports grounds of the #52 school will be repaired in the near future. To mark the occasion, on 27 March 4th-yearstudents performed Hovhannes Tumanyan’s famous tale “The Foolish Man” and expressed their gratitude to project representatives from the French Embassy in Armenia. One of the participants, who wolf Vahe Manukyan, said that preparing for the performance had been hard, but students had done it with great enthusiasm. To the question of what the repaired sports ground would offer them, he answered with one word: “happiness”. The performance was followed by games. As for a slogan, the children chose the phrase “healthy body, healthy soul”, and proved with their broad smiles that their greatest desire was to have a place to run, play and train.
