Belgium – the land of chocolate

Belgium, one of the founding EU members, is known for much more than hosting EU institutions. Belgians are famous for comics, lace, fries, beer and, in particular, pralines (chocolate dough with ground nuts). Chocolate is almost idolised there. Chocolate boutiques line up the streets of cities and offer mostly handmade sweets guarding secret recipes. Just choose one or two chocolates and have them packed like precious jewels. Or ask for an exclusive taste and share your preferences with the chocolate-maker.

Both Brussels and Bruges carry the chocolate brand, but it is Bruges that hosts a whole museum dedicated to the “sweet miracle”. Chocolate restaurants where all the meals have this ingredient are not uncommon. Bruges also hosts an annual fest called “Dolce vita,” during which cooks can unleash their imagination and use chocolate with sometimes astonishing results.
