EU Advisory Group presents project results of last quarter

On 25 February 2014 the 15th Board Meeting of the EU Advisory Group (EUAG) in Armenia took place in Yerevan. Artur Baghdasaryan, the Secretary of the National Security Council (NSC), and Ambassador Traian Hristea, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, co-chaired the meeting, and participants included high-ranking officials from the President’s Office, the government, the National Assembly, Embassies of EU Member States, and international organisations.
During the meeting the EUAG presented its Quarterly Report for October-December 2013, as well as an updated Needs Assessment Report and a work plan for January- April 2014.
Ambassador Hristea, summarising progress made by EUAG, stated “Some of the results of the strategic and policy level advice provided by the EU Advisory Group have come to fruition since our last meeting in November. The Visa Facilitation and Readmission Agreements that entered into force on 1 January are a significant step in the direction of enhanced mobility and people-to-people contacts”.
Baghdasaryan expressed his gratitude to EUAG for its support to the Armenian government in the implementation of reforms: “In the upcoming NSC meeting we are going to discuss future cooperation between the EU and Armenia, and in particular the 2014-2015 List of activities for the implementation of the EU-Armenia ENP Action Plan.” He added that an updated ENP Action Plan should be elaborated and finalised it before December.
Ina Iankulova, International Aid/Cooperation Officer at the EU Delegation, presented the quarterly report of the project focusing on activities in the areas of justice reform, migration, law enforcement, human rights and parliamentary oversigh. Alla Bakunts, UNDP Programme Analyst, presented an update of the Needs Assessment Report and Work Plan for January-April 2014.
