Catherine Ashton visits Armenia

On 15-17 November the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton paid regional visits to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.
During the briefing held in Yerevan on 17 November Catherine Ashton welcomed the European integration process implemented in Armenia. According to the HRVP, despite the crisis in the euro zone, EU support to reforms in Armenia will continue. The negotiations on a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement will start once the necessary conditions have been completed, and this important process can contribute to economic progress in Armenia. In connection with visa facilitation negotiations, HRVP Ashton said that these are expected to start soon. The upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections, the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, as well as Armenian-Turkish relations were also discussed.
