Assistance in the migration sector

1 December 2011

To raise awareness of EU legislation on migration and to improve the management of migration flows from Armenia to the EU, training on the EU Acquis in Migration was held on 19-20 October.
Free mobility within the EU territory, EU human rights and insurance, and regular and irregular migration issues were discussed during the session, with participation by EU experts Kristina Touzenis and Paola Pace. Initial negotiations on visa facilitation and readmission agreements, as well as bilateral labour agreements, would create a sustainable basis for the implementation of reform in the migration sector, stated the experts.
The training programme was organised by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the International Centre for Human Development NGO within the framework of the EU-funded project “Strengthening Evidence-Based Management of Labour Migration in Armenia” with a budget of €1,950,000.
