10 Coalitions of CSOs gather for the Common Network of Cooperation

20 March 2019

On 16 February, as part of the EU-funded ‘Commitment to Constructive Dialogue (CCD)’ project, 10 civil society organisation (CSO) coalitions with a combined membership of 250 organisations signed a declaration of cooperation aimed at establishing the ‘Constructive Dialogue Network of Armenian CSOs’. The declaration is open to all CSO coalitions.

IMG_0610 копияThe idea of joining forces and putting this on a legal basis emerged, and was subsequently developed, during a three-day workshop for cooperation and strengthening of CSO coalition sub-grantees on 14-16 February in Aghveran. This event was part of the CCD project. During the workshop, the representatives of nine coalitions presented the main objectives of their activities conducted under the CCD sub-grant programme to their partners, as well as the main obstacles they faced. As a result of the discussions, the participants came to the conclusion that there were great opportunities to work with each other and have joint results.

Karen Zadoyan, President of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association and the CCD Project Manager, noted that this was a positive step: “This is a new quality partnership, and I hope it will contribute to the solution of the largest and most problematic issues that exist in public life, as well as in the economy and society”.

The objectives of the ‘Constructive Dialogue Network of Armenian CSOs’ are: to strengthen inter-sectorial constructive dialogue and cooperation between CSO coalitions; to develop constructive and strategic partnership between CSO coalitions and the government, National Assembly and local self-government bodies. These will be on mutual trust to develop and implement publicly controlled policies aimed at solving critical problems forArmenia citizens; to develop the capacity of CSO coalitions to improve the planning, implementation, and public oversight of policy making, and create an Endowment Fund with the support of the Armenian diaspora and the international community to ensure financial sustainability for CSO coalitions andtheir member organisationsand activities.

CCD itself is being implemented with the financial support of the European Union by a consortium of CSOs. The project aims to enhance the influence of CSOs and CSO coalitions/networks on public policies in Armenia.
